60seconds jury, statement about winner film, Article 29 by Clara Jantzen Kreinøe (Denmark)

In such a short time the film succeed in telling about
their misery and ours
how apathy
how nearly dead we are
left without reaction, feeling
and how we are almost not able to find energy
to move our zapping finger

The film is a clear portrait of a dead clicking society
just able to do virtual protest about the unfair world

In a poetic and humoristic artistic form
the film shows us first as passive witnesses

and then it portraits us as the victims we have become
the film is not only a portrait of our world becoming repressive
but also a portrait of our ego
our stupid ego just able to cry on our own ego ego condition

This is a fantastic film about apathy and empathy
we are all dead until the moment
we will discover, that we are in the center of the horror
and it is too late
this film is a portrait of our future
and it should make us think, it is urgent to wake up
shut down our TV and struggle for justice

maybe the film alarm us that now the democracy is already gone
and the justice hijacked
maybe the film tell us just sad news

60seconds jury, statement about winner film, Western Sahara, by Elo Vega (Spain):

A series of signs. Like representations of law, prohibitions, warnings and recommendations. Some are reckognizeable and others makes us wander.

Western Sahara is a film which triggers our curiosity and calls for our attention. Like street-art it toys with our instinct to make sense and to follow the restrictions and warnings given by the official symbols we are confronted with –especially in public spaces like the metro. At first glance the symbols seem to be of a random nature, but there is a feeling of deeper construct as some of the graphic representations seem to draw on very specific un-familiar sources.

As it turns out, the film has a very precise storyline, as it respresents a part of the story of the Western Sahara conflict. But the strenght in the film is that it –in terms of its specifiic style also is open for interpretations.

Thus the specific regional conflict and human rights violations it represents becomes universal. That is what art can do –make the specific universal.
